Индекс курсов ценных бумаг на Нью-Йоркской фондовой бирже, публикуемый фирмой “Доу Джонс энд ко.” (американская фирма, специализирующаяся на сборе и предоставлении финансовой информации). Это индекс с узкой расчетной базой, включающей 30 основных компаний, и сопоставимый с фондовым индексом промышленных обыкновенных акций, публикуемым газетой “Файнэншл таймс” (см.:Financial Times Shares Indexes (фондовые индексы акций, публикуемые газетой “Файнэншл таймсе”)). Впервые этот индекс был рассчитан в 1884 г. и базировался в то время на курсах ценных бумаг 11 компаний (главным образом железнодорожных), однако в 1928 г. претерпел изменения, а его значение за тот год было принято за 100. Своей низшей точки индекс достиг 2 июля 1932 г., когда его значение равнялось 41. В 1987 г. его значение превышало 2400. Существует также три других индекса Доу-Джонса, которые отражают движение курсов американских облигаций внутренних займов, ценных бумаг транспортных компаний и коммунальных предприятий.
